Square one
Well here it is ..... my first blog.
Some time ago I returned to teaching after a couple of decades out in the computer industry and so now I am back teaching ICT and it has been a bit of a shock. There have been changes for the better.
I don't see the old fashioned bullying teacher, which were common in my previous career. I don't miss them. No, respect seems to be the order of the day.... at least from the teachers. It is sometimes returned by the students. I'll talk more about this later.
But I am teaching ICT which is what I really want to talk about.
Obviously I can't speak for all schools but I have been a supply teacher to a dozen schools or more and I am quite shocked at what I have seen.
- Schools (that I have seen) have NOT embraced IT, or ICT as they prefer to call it.
- School IT infrastructure is very poorly managed. Frequently the network managers come from the old school of feeling that they own the network rather than provide a service and staff seem to accept this.
- GCSE IT is almost a joke.
